The Cabin Bedrooms: After

I’ve been so busy trying to figure out how to homeschool, that I forgot to show you the rest of the cabin! Since it’s been so long, let me give you a refresh on the master bedroom situation. Previously, it was a perfectly lovely room with zero privacy. The lattice paneling to the left opened into the living nook, and directly behind me in the photo was the kids’ bedroom. The only way to get to their room was through our room with a bi-fold closet door separating the two spaces. The balcony also had a set of stairs that the kids would use to quickly run outside, making our bedroom more hallway-like than we wanted.

New floors, fresh paint, two fewer openings, and the removal of a set of stairs later, we now have a perfectly lovely and adequately private master bedroom that receives the most beautiful afternoon light.

Due to the pandemic and the limited access we’ve had to the world, I have relied on my excellent mooching and furniture moving skills to decorate the cabin. The curtains, throw pillows and chair in our bedroom were brought from the apartment in Viña. The dresser and night tables were an exchange with my sister-in-law. (My MIL later informed me that dresser was the changing table for my husband when he was a baby!) And the lamps and the carpet were shed and attic finds.

The kids’ bedroom also had privacy issues due to previous additions and rearrangements. To the right of the bunk beds, there was a window with a view into the bathroom (actually into the shower) and next to that, an unused door to the bathroom. We closed off the wall between our two bedrooms as well as that unfortunate window to the bathroom. The old door to the bathroom is back in use, but it now leads to a short hallway so everyone has easy access to the baño. (P.S. – Did you notice the yellow curtains, small chest, and small carpet from the boys old bedroom now live in the kitchen?)

The bunkbeds (with all the wool blankets for the winter) are now along the wall where the bi-fold doors used to connect our two rooms. It’s a little room, but with three sets of windows, it has lots of light and some space to play.

From this direction you can see the hallway that was added. The shelves are a recent addition and have brought so much life and function to this space.

When you’re living in a small space, privacy is important and the changes that we made in the bedrooms have allowed us to be much more comfortable in the 4 months and counting that we’ve been living here.
